Partial Packing Services in Boston, MA
Not everyone needs their entire home packed. If you're comfortable packing clothes and books but don't want to risk wrapping your grandmother's china, partial packing is the answer. Boston Best Rate Movers offers flexible partial packing where you choose which rooms, items, or categories our crew handles — and you take care of the rest yourself.

Why Choose Us?

You Choose What We Pack
Partial packing gives you complete control over the scope. From Wellesley to West Roxbury and the Weston area to homes in Westwood, our Greater Boston area packing specialists handle every item with care. The most common requests: pack just the kitchen (the most time-consuming and breakage-prone room in any home), pack only fragile items throughout the house (glassware, dishes, artwork, mirrors, electronics), or pack specific rooms that you haven't gotten to yet.
Our crew arrives with all necessary materials — boxes, packing paper, bubble wrap, dish packs, tape — and handles whatever you've designated. Everything else stays untouched for you to pack on your own timeline. This hybrid approach gives you professional protection where it matters most while keeping costs down.
Common partial packing combinations: kitchen + dining room, home office + electronics, artwork + mirrors + fragile décor, or simply "everything we haven't gotten to yet" (great for last-minute situations when you've run out of time).

When Partial Packing Makes Sense
You started packing but ran out of time. Most people can handle clothes, books, and linens themselves. From Brookline to Cambridge, families across Greater Boston community choose our packing team for thorough preparation. But the kitchen, bathroom cabinets, and fragile items take much longer than expected. We come in and handle whatever's left.
You want to protect specific items. If you have fine china, crystal, or artwork, professional packing ensures those items survive the move. We use specialty materials and techniques that are difficult to replicate with off-the-shelf supplies.
You're on a budget but need some help. Full-home packing is a premium service. Partial packing lets you get professional help where it matters most while doing straightforward packing yourself. Most people save 40-60% off full packing costs by handling their own clothes, books, and linens.

Partial Packing Rates
Partial packing is billed at $149 per hour plus materials used. Since the scope varies widely, here are common scenarios:
Kitchen only: 1.5-3 hours depending on size and contents. Kitchen + dining room: 2-4 hours. Fragile items throughout a 2-bedroom: 2-3 hours. "Everything we haven't packed yet" (typically 30-50% of home): varies, but usually half the time of full-home packing.
Materials are charged at cost based on actual usage. We estimate this during the quoting process so you can budget accurately.

Combining Partial Packing With Your Move
Partial packing can happen the day before or the morning of the move. For smaller scopes (kitchen only, fragile items only), same-day packing and moving works well. The crew packs first, then transitions to loading the truck.
For larger partial packing jobs, scheduling packing the day before and moving the next day gives you a more relaxed timeline. Either way, we coordinate the packing and moving crews so everything flows smoothly.
If you've self-packed some items, make sure your boxes are properly sealed, labeled with contents and destination room, and not overpacked (a box you can't lift is too heavy). Our crew loads your self-packed boxes alongside the professionally packed ones.

Tips for DIY Packing (the Parts You're Handling)
Use proper boxes. Liquor store boxes and random Amazon boxes are not designed for moving. They collapse, don't stack, and offer poor protection. Use proper moving boxes — we sell them at cost.
Don't overpack boxes. A box should weigh no more than 50 lbs. Books should go in small boxes. Heavier items on the bottom, lighter items on top. Fill any empty space with packing paper to prevent shifting.
Label everything. Write the destination room and a brief description of contents on at least two sides of each box. This saves enormous time during unloading.
Wrap fragile items individually. If you're packing any fragile items yourself, wrap each piece individually in packing paper (not newspaper, which leaves ink stains). Never stack plates flat — pack them vertically like records.

Packing Tips
How to Choose the Right Moving Box Sizes
Selecting the proper box size is essential for safe transport and efficient loading. Using incorrect box sizes can lead to structural failure, overloading, or inefficient stacking inside the truck.
Small Boxes (1.5 cu. ft.) – Heavy Items
Small cartons are ideal for dense items such as books, documents, canned goods, and small tools. Limiting weight per carton improves safety during lifting and prevents box collapse.
Medium Boxes (3.0 cu. ft.) – General Household Items
Medium cartons are commonly used for kitchenware, décor, small appliances, and miscellaneous household goods. They provide balanced capacity without becoming too heavy.
Large Boxes (5–6 cu. ft.) – Lightweight Bulk Items
Large cartons are best suited for bedding, pillows, clothing, and other lightweight but bulky belongings. These cartons should not be overloaded with dense items.
