Single Item Movers in Boston, MA
Need to move just one item? A couch you bought on Facebook Marketplace. A dresser from your parents' house. A piano from a friend's apartment. A treadmill from the third floor to the basement. Boston Best Rate Movers handles single-item moves with the same professional equipment and trained crews we use for full relocations. No move is too small.

Why Choose Us?

Professional Moving for Any Single Item
Single-item moves are one of our most requested services. From Malden to Mattapan and Medford to the Melrose area, our Greater Boston crew handles every detail with care. Not everyone needs a full apartment move — sometimes you just need two strong professionals with the right equipment to get one heavy or awkward item from point A to point B.
We move single items between addresses (across town, across the neighborhood, or between cities), between floors within the same building, from a store or seller's location to your home, from your home to a storage unit, and from one room to another when the item is too heavy to move safely without equipment.
Every single-item move gets the same treatment: furniture padding and blanket wrapping, floor and doorframe protection, proper dolly and strap equipment, and careful handling through hallways, stairs, and doorways. We don't cut corners on a one-item job.

Items We Commonly Move as Single Pieces
Sofas and sectionals: The most common single-item move in Boston. From Milton to Mission Hill, families across Greater Boston choose our crew for thorough service. Navigating a sofa through a walkup staircase or narrow doorway requires technique that DIY efforts usually lack.
Dressers and armoires: Heavy, awkward, and top-heavy. Staircase moves require straps and controlled technique to prevent tipping.
Mattresses and bed frames: King-size mattresses in Boston walkups are notorious for getting stuck on staircase turns. Our crews know the angles.
Pianos: See our dedicated piano moving page for detailed information on upright, baby grand, and grand piano moves.
Gun safes: See our gun safe moving page for safes ranging from 200 to 2,500+ pounds.
Appliances: Refrigerators, washers, dryers, and other heavy appliances that require specialty dollies and floor protection.
Gym equipment: Treadmills, ellipticals, and weight racks. Full details on gym equipment moving here.
Desks and office furniture: L-shaped desks, standing desks, and heavy filing cabinets that need disassembly for staircase transport.

Single Item Moving Rates
Single-item moves start at $149 per hour for two movers and a truck. Most single-item jobs take 1.5-3 hours, depending on the item, access conditions, and distance between locations.
Standard furniture piece (sofa, dresser, bed), ground floor: 1.5-2 hours ($223-$298). Same item with stairs (2-3 flights): 2-2.5 hours ($298-$373). Heavy specialty items (piano, safe, appliance): 2-4 hours, may require 3 movers ($298-$596).
The rate includes all equipment: dollies, pads, blankets, straps, floor runners, and doorframe guards. No minimum item count, no small-job surcharge.
Why Hire Professionals for One Item?
It seems like overkill to hire a moving company for one piece of furniture. But there are several reasons it makes sense:
Weight. A full-size dresser weighs 100-150 pounds. A refrigerator weighs 250-350 pounds. A piano can weigh 500-1,200 pounds. Moving these items safely requires equipment and training, not just willpower.
Boston's buildings. Narrow stairs, tight turns, 28-inch doorways, and no elevators. Even a relatively light item becomes a real challenge when the path from apartment to truck involves a spiral staircase and a narrow hallway.
Damage prevention. When you and a friend try to carry a sofa down stairs, something gets damaged — the sofa, the wall, the staircase, or the friend. Professional movers with pads, straps, and technique prevent all of that.
Insurance. Our crew is insured. Your friend is not. If something goes wrong during a DIY single-item move, you're on the hook for medical bills, property damage, and replacement costs. With us, everything is covered.

Booking a Single Item Move
When you request your estimate, tell us: what the item is (type, approximate weight, dimensions), where it's located now (address, floor, stairs or elevator), where it's going (address, floor, stairs or elevator), and any access challenges (narrow doorways, tight turns, long walks, parking issues).
The more detail you give us, the more accurate your estimate. We'll recommend the right crew size (two movers for most items, three for heavy items like pianos and safes) and give you a realistic time range.
We schedule single-item moves with the same availability as full moves. Call in the morning and we can often dispatch a crew the same day for urgent needs. Learn about our same-day availability.

Packing Tips
How to Choose the Right Moving Box Sizes
Selecting the proper box size is essential for safe transport and efficient loading. Using incorrect box sizes can lead to structural failure, overloading, or inefficient stacking inside the truck.
Small Boxes (1.5 cu. ft.) – Heavy Items
Small cartons are ideal for dense items such as books, documents, canned goods, and small tools. Limiting weight per carton improves safety during lifting and prevents box collapse.
Medium Boxes (3.0 cu. ft.) – General Household Items
Medium cartons are commonly used for kitchenware, décor, small appliances, and miscellaneous household goods. They provide balanced capacity without becoming too heavy.
Large Boxes (5–6 cu. ft.) – Lightweight Bulk Items
Large cartons are best suited for bedding, pillows, clothing, and other lightweight but bulky belongings. These cartons should not be overloaded with dense items.
