Junk Removal in Boston, MA
Moving often means confronting years of accumulated stuff you no longer need. Old furniture, broken appliances, boxes of things you forgot existed — it all needs to go before (or after) your move. Boston Best Rate Movers offers junk removal as a standalone service or combined with your move. Same crews, same trucks, same professional handling — we just take the unwanted items away instead of delivering them.

Why Choose Us?

Pre-Move and Post-Move Junk Removal
The best time to get rid of junk is right before or during your move. From Woburn to the Brookline area and homes in Cambridge to Hyde Park, our trained Greater Boston specialists handle every item with precision. Every item you eliminate reduces your moving time, your moving cost, and the amount of unpacking at the new place. Our junk removal service handles both timing options:
Pre-move cleanout. We come before your move and haul away everything you don't want to take with you. Old couches, mattresses, broken furniture, outdated electronics, garage clutter, basement junk — we load it, we haul it, you don't think about it again. This is especially popular with homeowners who've been in the same house for 10-20+ years.
Post-move removal. After the move, you realize the old bookshelf doesn't fit, the couch doesn't work in the new living room, or there are packing materials and debris everywhere. We come back and remove whatever you don't want.
Combined with your move. The most efficient option: during your move, we load the items you're keeping onto our truck for delivery to the new address and take the junk items to the disposal facility. One crew, one trip, one bill.

Junk Removal Rates
Junk removal is billed hourly at $149 per hour for two movers and a truck. This covers labor, loading, transport, and disposal. The volume of junk determines how long the job takes:
Small load (a few furniture pieces or 10-15 boxes): 1-2 hours. Medium load (full room cleanout or garage): 2-4 hours. Large load (whole-house cleanout or estate cleanout): 4-8+ hours with additional crew members.
Disposal fees (dump charges) are separate from the hourly labor rate and vary depending on the volume and type of material. We provide an all-inclusive estimate before starting the job so you know the total cost upfront.
When to Schedule Junk Removal With Your Move
Downsizing. Moving from a house to a smaller apartment? You'll have furniture, appliances, and possessions that won't fit. Schedule junk removal for the same day as your move and we'll sort, keep, and remove in one trip.
Estate cleanouts. Clearing a deceased family member's home is emotionally and physically difficult. Our crews handle the physical work with care and discretion, removing furnishings, personal items (if directed), and accumulated belongings.
Renovation prep. Clearing out a room or a whole floor before a renovation? We remove old fixtures, furniture, and debris so your contractor has a clean space to work in.
Landlord turnover. Tenants moved out and left furniture, appliances, and junk behind? We clear units quickly so you can clean, repair, and re-lease faster. Especially valuable for September 1st turnover in Boston.

Preparing for Junk Removal Day
Decide what goes before we arrive. Walk through your home and clearly identify (or tag) items for removal. The faster we can identify what's junk and what's staying, the faster the job goes.
Separate donation items. If some items are in good condition and you'd like to donate them, set them aside. We can deliver donation items to local organizations in the Boston area during the same trip if logistics allow.
Clear access paths. If junk items are in a basement, attic, or cluttered room, clear a path to the exit so the crew can move efficiently. Remove obstacles from doorways and stairways.
Point out heavy or hazardous items. If there's a 500-pound safe, a full hot tub, or items near electrical/gas lines, tell us when you book so we can plan accordingly.

Packing Tips
How to Choose the Right Moving Box Sizes
Selecting the proper box size is essential for safe transport and efficient loading. Using incorrect box sizes can lead to structural failure, overloading, or inefficient stacking inside the truck.
Small Boxes (1.5 cu. ft.) – Heavy Items
Small cartons are ideal for dense items such as books, documents, canned goods, and small tools. Limiting weight per carton improves safety during lifting and prevents box collapse.
Medium Boxes (3.0 cu. ft.) – General Household Items
Medium cartons are commonly used for kitchenware, décor, small appliances, and miscellaneous household goods. They provide balanced capacity without becoming too heavy.
Large Boxes (5–6 cu. ft.) – Lightweight Bulk Items
Large cartons are best suited for bedding, pillows, clothing, and other lightweight but bulky belongings. These cartons should not be overloaded with dense items.
