Storage-in-Transit (SIT)
Storage-in-Transit, or SIT, is short-term storage provided by the moving company between pickup and final delivery — typically because the customer's destination isn't ready to receive the shipment.
SIT is common when closing dates don't line up — for example, the customer has to vacate the origin home on a Tuesday but can't move into the new home until Friday. The moving company holds the shipment in its warehouse (or in a sealed container/vault) and delivers it on the agreed final date. SIT charges are typically based on weight and number of days stored, plus a final delivery fee.
Most interstate carriers allow SIT for up to 90 days; beyond that, the shipment moves to long-term storage. Boston Best Rate Movers offers SIT for both local and long-distance moves, including overnight storage on the truck itself for next-morning delivery — a service many movers don't offer because it ties up a truck overnight.
