Certificate of Insurance (COI)
A Certificate of Insurance, or COI, is a one-page document from a moving company's insurer confirming that the company holds active insurance coverage with specific policy limits and effective dates.
Many Boston-area apartment buildings, condo associations, and commercial property managers require movers to submit a COI before allowing them to use elevators or load on the property. The COI typically must name the building's management company as an additional insured and meet minimum coverage limits (often $1 million general liability and $1 million workers' comp).
Boston Best Rate Movers issues COIs to building management on request, usually within 24 hours of booking. Customers should ask their building manager about COI requirements at least one week before move day to avoid last-minute scrambles.
