Crating
Crating is the process of building a custom wooden box around a fragile or high-value item — such as a piece of art, a glass tabletop, a marble slab, or a chandelier — to protect it during transport.
Standard moving blankets and stretch wrap are sufficient for most furniture, but fragile and irregularly shaped items often need a custom-built wooden crate for safe transport. Crating is typically priced per crate (cost includes lumber, hardware, labor, and disposal) and is a separate accessorial charge on top of the base move price.
Boston Best Rate Movers offers in-house crating for art, glass, marble, large mirrors, chandeliers, and concert-grand piano legs — typically scheduled the day before the move so the crate is ready for loading on move day.
